Funny dialogues that became film titles
The contribution of comedians to the Tamil film industry is immense. The very fact that the titles of several Tamil films in recent times have been culled out from funny dialogues delivered by them is a testimony to the popularity they enjoy and the significance of their contribution. Chennai Times presents a few such films to have been made in recent times.NanbendaThe term, which translates to a friend, became immensely popular after it appeared repeatedly in funny sequences featuring Arya and Santhanam in the comic caper Boss Engira Baskaran. The phrase was so popular that college students began using it in their day-to-day conversations and was the first choice of anybody looking to pull the leg of a nave friend, who had gotten himself into a quandary by volunteering to help. Little wonder then that the term has now become the title of an upcoming Tamil film. Nanbenda features Udhayanidhi Stalin and Nayanthara in the lead and interestingly, Santhanam will be seen playing an important role in this film, too!Innuma nambala namburaangaUnlike Nanbenda, Innuma nambala namburaanga, which means Do they still believe in us? seems to have been inspired by Intha ooru nambala innuma nambikitu irruku?, which appeared just once in the Tamil film, Winner, which featured Prashanth and Kiran in the lead.
Uttered by comedian Vadivelu, the original phrase appears in a dialogue he delivers immediately after two villagers express faith in his fighting abilities despite the comedian having been bashed up by a rival gang. The phrase has now been slightly modified and adopted by a filmmaker as a title. This film features Sudhagar and Thiruveni as its lead and has been directed by S R Balaji.Arasiyella Ithellam SagajamappaThis title owes its existence to a funny dialogue that is delivered by ace comedian Goundamani in a film titled Suryan, starring Sarath Kumar and Roja in the lead. Goundamani, who plays a politician in the film, makes this statement after being caught red-handed, while pretending to make a call through a telephone that is not connected. That phrase has now been slightly changed to become the title for a film, which will star Ganesh as its hero and Saraa Shetty as its heroine. The film is being directed by Shakti Ajaikumar.Theeya Velai Seyannum KumaruTheeya velai seyannum Kumaru, meaning Kumar, work like fire, first appeared in the intense Dhanush-starrer, Pudhupettai. However, Sundar C, a master at making commercial films, borrowed the phrase to make it his comedy films title and also use it in a comedy sequence. The film, which featured Siddharth and Hansika in the lead, had Santhanam playing a major role as the heros love guru.Inga Enna SolludhuThis title comes from a dialogue, which comedian Ganesh, delivered in Gautham Vasudev Menons hit, Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya, featuring Simbu and Trisha in the lead. The film, in which Ganesh plays a cameraman, points to Simbus heart and asks, Inga enna solludhu? Jessie, Jessiennu solludha? meaning What does it say here? Does it say Jessie, Jessie? Even Ganesh himself didnt expect that part of his dialogue to become so popular but when it did, he chose to capitalize on it by culling out a phrase from the dialogue to make it the title of a film in which he played the lead along with Meera Jasmine. Simbu did a cameo in this flick.
